Join the Read & Run Chicago Winter 2026 Volunteer Team!

Exciting things are happening at Read & Run Chicago—including updates to our volunteer program! We’re restructuring to create a more consistent, high-impact experience for both our volunteers and participants. Rather than having different volunteers for each event, we’re forming a dedicated cohort to support the entire Winter 2026 season. This approach allows us to run our events more smoothly and build a strong, cohesive team.
What’s Changing?
Total Number of Volunteers
We will select four volunteers to support all Winter 2026 events.
Volunteer Commitment
Volunteers will be expected to:
Attend a two-hour training in January 2026 (exact date TBD)
Join a 30-minute pre-event virtual meeting the week before each event
Participate in a post-event feedback session the week after each event
Volunteers will also be strongly encouraged to attend event dress rehearsals.
Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking volunteers who are passionate about Read & Run Chicago’s mission and understand the unique rhythm of our events. In addition, we’re looking for volunteers who have the time, energy, and emotional bandwidth to fully commit to supporting our Winter 2026 season. Ideally, you’ll have the capacity beyond work obligations to help us deliver memorable, immersive experiences for Chicagoans.
Our ideal volunteers:
Know and embody the Read & Run Chicago mission
Can maintain at least an 11:00 minute per mile pace for five miles
Follow through on commitments and can be trusted with responsibilities
Arrive on time and prepared
Feel confident directing groups and stepping into leadership roles
Are social and comfortable engaging with new people
Are open to constructive feedback and collaboration

Volunteers receive exclusive free access to all events, plus the chance to be part of the behind-the-scenes team that helps thousands of Chicagoans enjoy one-of-a-kind experiences and meet incredible authors.
In addition, volunteers will get a special sweat-wicking apparel item and be considered for future opportunities and special events with authors and publishers.
